IOPO is committed to honoring your donor who gave of himself or herself to save lives!
At IOPO, we believe that donors are life-saving heros. As such, we have the privilege of honoring your donor as well as you - the family of a donor - in a number of ways.
At time of donation, IOPO honors your organ donor with a medal which specifies that the deceased was an organ donor. The Gift of Life Medal is often displayed at the viewing and during the funeral so that those in attendance will know that others may live because of the life-saving organs and tissues given.
Each donor family is given a beautiful wooden memory box to hold special memories of their loved one.
IOPO has the honor of displaying donor memorial quilts. The quilt squares are made by family members or IOPO volunteers, and sent to IOPO in memory of the donor. The quilts are often displayed at IOPO public events where donors are remembered for their wonderful gift.
Each year IOPO honors our donor families in a ceremony that celebrates the lives of donors and their life-saving gifts.
Every other year, IOPO and Indiana families participate in the Transplant Games. These games are an olympics style event complete with opening and closing ceremonies, but the athlete participants are all organ recipients or family members of recipients.
